-February 1 – Susan thought it would be nice to take Kari
out to dinner for her birthday since Alvin was out of town for work. She reached out to Kari and soon found out
that John and Karen had the same idea.
Thus we converged on Texas Roadhouse for a steak dinner. We were seated in a large booth and the food
was excellent. We talked and ate for
around two hours. Before we left Kari
got to sit on a saddle while we gave her a “ye-haw!” in celebration of her
birthday along with several staff and a few embarrassed diners. Birthday dessert was provided which proved to
be a salve to Kari’s wounded pride. It
was nice to see everyone and catch up about this and that.
-February 4 weekend – On Saturday I had to go in to the
office to get some work done. Susan and
I decided to go together. While I worked
Susan went to Ikea and Savers. I got
done what I needed to get done quickly so we went to lunch before heading home. We worked on our latest puzzle some before we
hung out with the pugs and Susan napped.
Sunday morning Susan was up at the crazy hour of eight. We decided to take advantage of this and went
out for breakfast. We wanted to try a
Denny’s that was closer to home but Susan discovered it was closed some time
ago (I suppose Highlands Ranch is too hoity-toity for Denny’s) so we went to
Village Inn. The wait wasn’t long and
the food and coffee were delightful. Afterwards
we went home for more puzzle-action before we headed to Kari and Alvin’s home
for dinner with them and John and Karen.
The main course was slow-cooked roast beef with cake and ice cream for
dessert. The roast was quite tasty and
after dessert we were all stuffed.
Around 8:30 Susan and I took our leave.
This is the second year in a row we didn’t watch the Super Bowl. Not a big deal for us I suppose.
-February 11 weekend – This weekend was nice. I found out earlier in the week that I’d been
promoted to a Senior Investment Analyst which was great. Thus I entered the weekend in high
spirits. Susan inexplicitly woke up early
on Saturday so we went to breakfast. We
tried Urban Egg first but the long wait time had us at Village Inn again. Susan ordered an omelet that supposedly had a
jalapeƱo sauce on it for some “extra kick” but we both think the cook forgot to
add it. The food was alright and the
coffee good. We headed to Wal-Mart after
for some shopping and Costco for gas before we went home. We had just started a new puzzle the night
before and we made a lot of progress Saturday afternoon and evening.
The forecast called for some snow Sunday morning but nothing
ended up accumulating anywhere but on our skylights and it was just a few
flakes. I made us omelets on the stove
for breakfast and convinced Susan to take a walk around our green belt with
Bella. Bella is a wuss and we had to
carry her a couple of times during the trek.
The air was crisp and clean and we had a nice walk. After we got back I then left for our local
Great Clips to get a trim. This isn’t
something of note except that it’s only the third time I’ve had my hair cut in
three years. In the afternoon we ordered
pizza from Garlic Knot which was very tasty (we haven’t gotten pizza from there
since Dominos opened several months ago).
After Susan took a nap we ended up finishing the current puzzle just to
find out that it was missing a piece. I
suppose one missing piece after as many puzzles as we’ve done isn’t too
bad. For dinner we scrounged around in
the kitchen.
-February 18 weekend – This was a long/normal length
weekend. I got Monday off but Susan
didn’t. On Saturday we went to Dan
Hipwood’s home to pick up his contributions to the trophies. His pupper, Pixel, has grown a bit but is
still pretty small and so so cute. We
had gotten coffee and bagels and Einstein’s on our way there and stopped at
Microcenter to get Susan a new keyboard and track pad on our way home. As we had no other plans for the day Susan
suggested we go to Bo Joes for lunch. We
did so. Initially we were going to head
up to Idaho Springs but decided the regular and horrific ski traffic would
spoil the trip so instead went to the location in Evergreen. The food was good and the drive was nice.
Sunday had us driving to a go-carting venue in Monument for
the 2016 Colorado RallyCross awards banquet.
We had a room reserved and brought our small PA to use. It was scheduled for 1:00 but ended up
starting around 2:00 as many people were running late. No biggie as it gave us all more time to chat
about this and that. There was also a
town hall of sorts where we talked about the needs of the club and
whatnot. To my knowledge no one actually
went carting as by the time we finished up the joint was packed. It was a fun experience but I’m glad to have
it over with. As always I did my best to
ham it up on the microphone to the general consternation of my audience
(especially Susan). After it was over we
stayed to talk to fellow competitors for a time.
Monday Susan had to work and I stayed home with the puggers
by myself. I accomplished approximately
nothing which was alright. I did spend
much of the day working on our current puzzle so there’s that. My dinner experimentation for the evening
came out a bit odd which was a bummer but Susan didn’t directly call it
horrible so there’s also that. Susan has
been spending some of her evenings working on door decorations for our upcoming
cruise. We are very excited!
